Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has warned that the European Union’s newly approved €90 billion ($96 billion) loan for Ukraine risks being undermined by "oil blackmail." Speaking from Bratislava, Fico labeled the financial package a "war loan," noting that €60 billion is designated for military procurement while only €30 billion addresses civil needs. Despite the expected resumption of crude oil flows through the Druzhba pipeline following a months-long disruption, Fico asserted that trust between Bratislava and Kyiv is "severely damaged." The Prime Minister suggested that Ukraine may suspend oil transit again once the EU funds are unblocked, leaving Central European energy security in a precarious state. Slovakia, alongside Hungary and the Czech Republic, has distanced itself from the loan agreement, citing concerns over regional stability and the ideological direction of Brussels’ foreign policy.
