The Problem with AMD Ryzen Epyc and LSI HBA controllers | and how to fix

Many of my customers who buy LSI HBA SAS controllers from my eBay store are using AMD Ryzen or Epyc platforms for their server builds. With AMD Ryzen and Epyc, I've noticed problems with PCIe link negotiation not working correctly with legacy PCIe cards. This is especially prevalent with PCIe 2.0 HBA cards like those based on the LSI SAS2008 chipset. One such customer from Japan named Julian did me the favor of recording this problem so that I can make a video to share with you guys the workaround to fix this issue.

In this video, I will show you what the problem looks like. And then I will show you what setting changes you can make that will help fix this problem.

0:15 - Description of the problem with AMD Ryzen Epyc and LSI HBA controllers
0:38 - Demonstration of the problem with Supermicro M11SDV-4CT-LN4F with AMD Epyc 3101
4:09 - Getting into system setup menu to apply workaround
7:12 - Demonstrating that the workaround works!

Special Thanks to Julian! :-)
