What role for the United Kingdom in the global trading system?

The United Kingdom is crafting a new role for itself in the global trading system by pursuing bilateral trade agreements with the European Union, the United States, and Japan, while looking into potentially joining the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership and developing a dynamic presence in the World Trade Organization (WTO). What is the thinking behind the UK’s trade policy strategy? How is the COVID-19 pandemic impacting this trade strategy? Can the UK help revive global trade cooperation at a time of great trade confrontations and geostrategic rivalry? Anabel González (nonresident fellow, Peterson Institute for International Economics) discusses these questions with Elizabeth Truss (Member of Parliament, Secretary of State for International Trade, and President for the Board of Trade for the United Kingdom) and Adam S. Posen (PIIE president) on July 8, 2020. For more information, visit: https://www.piie.com/events/what-role-united-kingdom-global-trading-system
