‘It’s insane’: Labor’s energy rebate to ease pain of industry it was ‘propping up’

UNSW Economics Professor Gigi Foster says the government is trying to “handball the scapegoat”, with the RBA left to handle inflation.

Ms Foster told Sky News host Chris Kenny that also within the budget is the $300 energy rebate “rort”.

“On one hand propping up an industry, and on the other hand giving consumers the money that they need to not feel that propping up quite as much in their back pocket.

“I mean it’s insane … you couldn’t make it up it’s amazing.”
