Harken Hoister Pickup Truck Topper Canopy Lift Review

This is how I stow/install the shell on my Toyota Tacoma in about 15 minutes. This review is for a Harken Hoister 7806.12 garage lift system for a pickup truck cap, topper, canopy, Jeep top, canoe, etc. I purchased it for $150. This is model has a 200lb capacity, and is for a 12ft ceiling. Using a bathroom scale, and standing on it while holding up this Leer fiberglass canopy, I measured the weight of the topper to be just under 200lb, and the 8:1 mechanical advantage makes lifting it pretty easy.

It's easy enough to use, but it's not completely effortless. So far I've used it a few times over the summer to swap between camping and hauling. However, I think I will be upgrading to something more DIY and custom, as I'm planning on building a bed drawer system that I also want to stow away in the ceiling, which would more than double the capacity of this lift.
