leadscrew-nut information ⚙️
Polymer leadscrew nuts are an option for integrated linear actuators — those
motion designs that couple a leadscrew to the motor output … or fix the nut that
engages the leadscrew to the motor rotor. These designs omit the usual output
shaft and coupling, so are lighter and more precise than traditional arrangements
— plus offer compactness from tight integration.
In this video, Lisa Eitel and Paul Heney of Design World explore the concepts of
lubricity and how coatings and lubricants interact with polymer leadscrew nuts to
impart higher efficiency. Then we explain where it makes sense to use nuts
made of lubricated polymer. Finally, we detail a nut-insert prototype service from
Haydon Kerk — to let OEMs and other machine builders test leadscrew-driven
axes with polymer nuts more accurately. ⚙️
