The story of 'Sylvette' a painted guitar.
I was very lucky to be able to play this beautiful Simon Ambridge guitar before it is put up for sale. Here is a short documentary about the instrument, made and directed by Simon. The instrument sounds great, a surprisingly big sound and bass from a light smaller bodied guitar.

Here are a few words from Simon about the instrument.
“I’m very pleased to introduce a beautiful new guitar ‘Sylvette’ 2021- decorated by my good friend and neighbour Lydia Corbett. Lydia, now in her late eighties is an established painter and sculptor but in 1954, aged 19 she met Pablo Picasso and became the subject of over 60 portraits, 28 of them paintings, the rest drawings and sculptures. As Sylvette she was the iconic ‘Girl with the Pony Tail’, versions of which are in many art galleries and collections worldwide.
This has been an inspiring project to work on, a true adventure into unknown territories and I admire Lydia for the spirit with which she enthusiastically approached the challenge. There were no second chances with the brush!
The guitar: European spruce top, Spanish cypress back and sides, Spanish cedar neck, ebony fingerboard, Indian rosewood bridge and fitted with Pegheds (planetary tuning pegs). MTM Kingham fitted case. This is a small, simple guitar very much in the Torres style with 5 fan struts; 650mm scale length; weight around 1kg.
The decoration: acrylic paint ,Indian black and gold ink, protected with a water based lacquer.”
