Thousands of Australians overseas remain 'unable to get home'
Sky News host Sharri Markson says there are currently around 34,000 Australians overseas who are unable to get back home – while those who have already booked flights are waiting to hear if their tickets will be cancelled.
Ms Markson spoke of the recent National Cabinet decision to cut Australia’s international arrivals by half.
The weekly arrival cap has been slashed to just over 3,000 people.
Ms Markson spoke to human rights lawyer Geoffrey Robertson QC about the issue and whether the decision is constitutional.
Mr Robertson said it is "simply cruel" to deny Australians their "absolute right" to return to their native land.
