Bataan: The Harrodsburg Tankers: A Time for Courage, A Time for Heroes. Documentary

2018 marks the 10th anniversary of the 2008 documentary produced by the Kentucky Army National Guard. The documentary tells the story of Company D, 192nd Tank Battalion, sixty-six soldiers known as "The Harrodsburg Tankers". Company D was originally part of the 38th Tank Company of the Kentucky Army National Guard from Harrodsburg, KY. The company was federalized in 1940, sent to Fort Knox, KY and from there continued their journey to the Louisiana Maneuvers in 1941. They were then sent to the Philippines in November 1941 and eighteen days after arriving were attacked by the Japanese at Clark Field. After a four month battle, the tankers were captured in April 1942 by the Japanese with all of them surviving the infamous "Death March". They were then imprisoned, at Camps O'Donnell and Cabanatuan in Bataan, enduring unimaginable torture and living conditions. They were eventually loaded onto Japanese "Hell Ships" and shipped to camps, factories and coal mines in Formosa, Manchuria and Japan. The tankers were liberated in 1945 with only thirty-seven of the original sixty-six returning to Kentucky. In 1984, the tankers were awarded Bronze Stars and POW Medals. They will forever live in history as: "The Battling Bastards of Bataan".
