COLOMBIAN COFFEE TOUR | Eileen Aldis

In this vlog we tour a Colombian coffee farm located in beautiful Salento, Quindio. If you're like me, when you think of Colombia you also think of COFFEE. I was so excited to see actual coffee plants for the first time in my life and learn more about the whole process of how they grow, different types of varietals, and why Colombia is such a big producer and exporter of Arabica coffee beans. Most farms also grow other types of food, including corn and beans which are staples of the Colombian diet. The plantation we visited also grows pineapple, yucca, avocado, tea, blackberries, bamboo, and guava which we were tempted to pick off the trees to sample! They also grow bananas and plantains because 'traditional'` coffee really likes to grow in shade. Banana trees are planted between the coffee plants because they grow tall and fast and provide shade for the coffee. We got to eat fresh bananas and discovered that the local dogs enjoy eating them too! Touring this farm and learning about local agriculture and coffee production was a major highlight for me and something I'll never forget. I hope you enjoy it too and that it gives you something to think about the next time you pour yourself a cup of joe. If you visit Colombia, I highly recommend touring a coffee plantation. There are over 300,000 coffee farms in Colombia but if you're near Salento then the Finca Don Eduardo tour is absolutely wonderful. They offer tours daily in both English and Spanish.
