The First Rock Had a Fossil In It! #geology

Exploring a small limestone cutting and searching for fossils in the Jurassic rocks of the Cotswolds.

The rocks here are predominantly White Lias Limestone, formed around 200 million years ago in a shallow marine environment. Fossils can sometimes be difficult to spot, but every piece of rock has the potential to reveal a glimpse of ancient life.

And in this case, the very first rock I picked up contained a shell fragment.

That's the magic of fossil hunting — you never know what you'll find next.

I’ve been the Down-to-Earth Geologist.
