The Taliban's influence over Afghanistan is increasing rapidly. Yet a resistance movement is preventing them from taking full control. This resistance is led by Ahmad Shah Massoud, famous for fighting against the Soviet occupation of the Panshir Valley, and winning. This time his task may even tougher. His recruits, while young and fit, are still in training and not as sharp as they should be, and the Taliban are ruthless, if not reckless, in their pursuit for the Valley. A deal with former enemies also fighting the Taliban may prove to be Massoud's saving grace.
