East Union, Manteca set for Friday night showdown in cross-town rivalry game | Game of the Week

The East Union Lancers and Manteca Buffalos renew their cross-town football rivalry Friday night at Manteca High School in what players and coaches are calling one of the most anticipated matchups of the season. The annual game features players who grew up together, adding personal intensity to the competition while maintaining mutual respect between programs.

East Union senior wide receiver Jackson Fay said the familiarity heightens the experience: "Can't get more exciting than this — playing against guys you've known your entire life." Manteca is known for its physical, smash-mouth style of football, with senior lineman Kevin Bradley emphasizing the team's hard-hitting approach.

East Union head coach Jason Stock, a former Lancer, acknowledged the significance of facing Manteca: "It's an inner-city rivalry. What they've accomplished, you can't take that away from them." Manteca head coach Mark Varnum called the game a community event, with alumni and students eager to attend.
