Million Dollar Bull - Asia's most expensive bovine!
India is an agrarian economy where livestock and cattle always play an important role. Among these vast numbers of livestock there are but a handful that stand literally – head and shoulders above the rest like Yuvraj.
Boasting a length of 14 feet and standing more than 5 feet 9 inches tall, Yuvraj weighs a staggering 1,400 kilograms.
The massive bull belongs to the famous Murrah breed.
With his sheer size and beauty Yuvraj beat several mighty bulls and was declared the champion at the All India Cattle Show held in Meerut in 2014. This is not his first such award. He has already bagged over 16 awards in the last few years.
Yuvraj can produce around 3.5 to 5 ml of high quality semen every day. This is used for artificial insemination for Murrah buffaloes with each insemination requiring only 0.25 ml. Yuvraj’s semen is in high demand amongst dairy farmers all across north India.
It takes a lot of labour and money to look after this huge animal.
Yuvraj’s owner, Karamveer has been offered hefty sums of money for the sale of his bull with the price going up to over 9 Crore rupees or over 1.3 million US dollars. He however rejected all the offers because he couldn’t get himself to part with Yuvraj whom he loves as much as his own children. He believes that everything in life is not just about money.
Yuvraj is not the only prized bull Karamveer owns. Yuvraj’s mother Ganga, father Yograj, brother Dhoni and son Helicopter also bring great pride to this farmer. All the names of his cattle obviously highlighting Karamveer’s great interest in Indian cricket. Ganga is a high yield buffalo and has already given birth to her 18th child.
Yuvraj is no less than a celebrity keeping in mind the fact that his fan following around the world is increasing by the day.
The relationship between Karamveer and his bovine ‘son’ Yuvraj shows us how strong a bond there can be between man and his animal.
