Canadian Parents In The Philippines? Yes! They are my parents, and they are visiting me in my home! For our first adventure I took them to Ilocos Norte, where they had the chance to experience some Ilocano culture. And in this case...

THEIR FIRST EVER FILIPINO FESTIVAL!

Welcome to the Guling-Guling Festival in Paoay, Ilocos Norte! Also known as the "smearing celebration".

This festival is a celebration just before Lenten season here in the Philippines. The whole town of Paoay comes together, sings, dances, and "smears" rice on their heads in the sign of a cross. It is a very Catholic Festival that has been going on for hundreds of years, and I was so happy to also have the opportunity to experience this for my first time!

Filipino Festivals are A LOT OF FUN, and full of good vibes! In fact, my parents were talking about parades back home, and comparing with what they were experiencing here!
