Her appearance in a video titled " Homeless mom and her two daughters live in a van near Seattle" ten years ago shook the world.
In that video she speaks about her struggles as a single mother living out of her van. What many people don't know is that Carey is also a former Jehovah`s witness. This is the story about how the organization exacerbated her during a time of economic strife, expecting her to spend more time in the preaching work when she could barely pay her bills. Their policies regarding higher education, the counting of preaching time, and a lack of economic support, food and shelter for members and the general public show a lack of empathy and charity in what is supposed to be a charitable organization. Essentially the watchtower bible and tract society has built a pipeline from preaching to poverty.
