How to do inverted box pleats

This video will introduce students to inverted box pleats. Inverted box pleats or box pleats are synonymous as they are one in the same. Box pleats are pleats or the box on the face side while inverted box pleats are where the pleats that are hidden inside the face fabric.

Inverted box pleats are commonly used because they are more flattering to the body while box pleats add volume to a garment.

They are commonly seen on shirts, dresses, and skirts.

See if you can spot any in your wardrobe!

NOTE:
Inverted box pleats can be any size. You're the designer; be creative and have fun with it.

You will have 5 lines on your fabric -- 2 guide lines on the left, a center line, 2 guide lines on the right. They must be symmetrical. The outer most guide lines will fold to the center line creating the pleat.

When marking your fabric be sure to use an invisible marker, tailor's chalk, or pencil. Do not use wax as it doesn't come off. It ruins your fabric.
