Testicular Torsion Presenting as Abdominal Pain
A 21 year old male diagnosed with a left testicular torsion presented with left lower quadrant abdominal pain and no testicle pain unless the testicle was palpated. This case demonstrates how precarious the diagnosis of testicular torsion can be without the use of an ultrasound. The urology attending and resident were perplexed by the lack of obvious findings on physical examination. The ultrasound demonstrating decreased blood flow convinced them to take the patient to surgery. An important teaching point of this video is that the testicles should be examined when males of all ages present with lower abdominal pain.
