Is the Mormon Church Charitable?

In America, almost purely by dint of being a religion, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints isn’t taxed. In countries like the UK however, the Church gets its tax free status precisely because it claims to be a Charity interested in assisting the poor and needy.

I am going to assess that claim, and why it matter to the British Tax Payer.
