What should you invest in in 2022? We just started this year, and it's a good time to discuss investment options on the horizon.
Let's see where are we standing right now. Since the lows in March/April 2020 markets have broadly gone up, almost across the board. There are not many places where something hasn't gone up.
Because this has already happened, it asks the question how much more upside is possible? You can certainly generate some yield, but the risk to reward may not be great.
If everything has gone up, it's a bad indicator of future prospects.
Over the past couple years the environment has been quite inflationary - this means that sitting on cash isn't great. At the same time assets are quite high, and if things don't go the way you expect them to go and if asset prices drop a lot, you'd be better off sitting on cash and buying assets at lower prices.
So. where does it leave is?
First of all, it's probably not a good idea to buy highly volatile non productive assets.
This is why investing in crypto assets will be a tougher game than it has been in previous years. In the past everything was just going up.
Tech stocks are also going down, you can see examples of Alibaba. It might be a good opportunity for some to jump in and buy stocks at the discounted prices, but at the same time you don't know how will China handle the geopolitical situation and your investment may be at risk.
Commodities are probably not going to see a huge run.
So, what can you do?
In my opinion, there are two things you should focus on.
Number 1 is cashflow. You want to be in the position where you're mitigating some risks. Also, you want to diversify across some assets that can bring positive cash flow.
Number 2 is liquidity. If the markets correct themselves, you will want to be able to take advantage of it. This will require some liquidity.
This is where yield farming and staking can be very useful.
We don't know whether we'll be in inflationary or deflationary environment in 2022, and we want to be safe on the both ends.
