Doctor at 23 talks about how to optimize the premed pathway. Tips for premed students and bs/md
What if you don’t get in to bs/md programs from high school?
There are other ways to accelerate. BS/MD can be one part of the game plan but it can’t be the entire game.
So here are 5 Ways to Become a Doctor Faster 🩺⚡️
There are several legitimate ways to shorten the path to becoming a doctor — without cutting corners. Whether you’re in high school, college, or already pre-med, understanding these routes early can save you years.
Here’s how to fast track your journey to MD 👇
1️⃣ BA/MD or BS/MD Accelerated Programs
These combined programs let you earn both your undergraduate and medical degrees in as little as 6–7 years instead of the traditional 8+. You’re accepted to both college and medical school at once, which means no MCAT stress (for many programs) and no reapplication process. These are ideal for highly motivated students who are 100% committed to medicine early on.
2️⃣ International Medical Programs (After High School)
In countries like the UK, Ireland, or the Caribbean, students can enter medical school right after high school. These programs typically last 5–6 years and combine undergrad and med school into one continuous path. Many students return to the U.S. for residency after passing the USMLEs.
3️⃣ Condense Your Undergraduate Years
If you’re already in college, you can still accelerate by completing your prerequisites early, taking summer or winter courses, or earning AP/IB credits in high school. Some students finish undergrad in 3 years and start medical school sooner. Efficiency and focus are key here.
4️⃣ Condense Medical School
Certain medical schools now offer 3-year MD programs, allowing you to skip the fourth year and go straight into residency — usually within the same institution. These programs are selective but perfect for students who are career-focused and ready to move quickly.
5️⃣ Skip Grades (or Start Early)
While less common, academically advanced students can skip grades during K–12 or dual-enroll in college classes while still in high school. Starting early adds up — even shaving off one or two years can make a big difference in your timeline.
You’re not behind you’re just missing some info. Let me help you fill in the gaps.
