Florida Deputy Charged with Manslaughter After Fatally Shooting Girlfriend During Gun Cleaning

A tragic oversight led to the death of a Florida deputy's girlfriend as he mistakenly fired his rifle while cleaning it. Deputy Leslie Boileau of Marion County was charged with manslaughter after accidentally shooting his girlfriend at their home in Ocala. The incident occurred shortly after the couple returned from dinner and began handling and cleaning their firearms. Despite attempting a routine dry-firing—a practice of firing a gun without ammunition—he forgot a loaded magazine was in the rifle, discharging a fatal shot. Boileau has been dismissed from his position and is currently held without bond as the investigation continues.
