Deep Arctic - Divestream - Bamboo Coral Garden

Depth :950 - 1300 m

Located along the Arctic Mid Ocean Ridge in the Banana hole, at a depth of about a thousand metres lies what is believed to be the first bamboo coral reef.
It was just discovered in 2025 (by Norwegian scientists at Mareano) and in addition to the corals, anemones, glass sponges and carnivorous sponges, eggs also indicate that Arctic Skates use the area as a nursery ground.
The bamboo coral garden is full of life, but it is still unclear how large the area actually is, and the exact coral species that dominate this site is still unknown.
We will continue to explore this coral hotspot and see what we find.
