Making a Chlorate Cell
I finally get set up to try a project which I've wanted to do for a long time, making potassium chlorate by electrolysis.
Starting out with a saturated solution of KCl, we construct a small 50mL chlorate cell from a beaker, a nickel cathode and mixed metal oxide anode.
Running this cell at about an amp for three days (periodically adding chloride to the cell throughout the run time) leaves us with nearly 10g of potassium chlorate to be recovered.
