Dr. A. Muruganathan is the B.C. Roy Awardee in 2005. He has received the Lifetime achievement award from Dr. MGR. Medical University in 2011 and KG Foundation Coimbatore in 2008. He has also been awarded “IMA Dr. M.G. Garg” all-time achievement award” from National Indian Medical Association in 2014.
It is a type of chronic condition where the blood pressure in the arteries is obstinately elevated. In India, approximately 200 million are suffering from hypertension while only 15% of cases are under control. Due to varied incontinence over adherence of treatment and lifestyle modifications hypertension cases have elevated in the country.
In this regard, the simplified Indian protocol for hypertension dwells to eradicate the customary beliefs in adherence to standard treatment related to hypertension in Indian society. There is a need to understand the importance of adherence to treatment, home BP monitoring for BP control and, involving the patient in the treatment process.
