Wheelco Quick Clips | How to Adjust Your Heavy Duty Bearings
Step 1: Lubricate bearing & place it on the spindle.
» Lubricate the wheel bearing with clean lubricant of the same type used in the axle sump or hub assembly.
» Thread the axle nut on the spindle.
Step 2: Use a properly sized socket & torque wrench for the initial adjustment.
» Nut Torque: Tighten the adjusting nut to a torque of 200 ft-lbs. while rotating the wheel.
» Do NOT use an impact wrench, it can easily get away from you and can over-tighten or under-tighten your wheel bearings.
Step 3: Use the same socket & a breaker bar for the initial back-off.
» Back the adjusting nut off one full turn.
Step 4: Use your torque wrench and do a re-torque adjustment.
» Re-Torque the adjusting nut to 50 ft-lbs while rotating the wheel.
Step 5: Use your breaker bar for the final back-off.
» Back the adjusting nut 1/4 turn.
» Install retaining hardware and jam nut onto spindle.
Step 6: Use your torque wrench & a smaller socket to tighten the jam nut.
» For 2-5/8" and larger, tighten the adjusting nut to a torque of 200-300 ft-lbs.
» Install locking mechanism, dependent upon wheel end, to lock axle nut in position.
Step 7: Use a wheel end dial indicator tool to check the end play.
» Always check end play with a Wheel End Dial Indicator Tool after final adjustment and lockdown.
» Refer to manufacturer specifications for recommended end play.
» Our end play is set to 0.001" - 0.005"
