My name is Wanda Murray. I'm 63 years old and I'm a nurse anesthetist.

Dr. Ryan Bearer, Matrix Pain Management, Saginaw, Michigan.

My lower back pain has been going on since about 2007. I sought out different pain services. I was injected mostly epidural steroids by three different doctors in the area. Then after talking to Dr. Bearer and Dr. Papenfuse, they decided that they had something more to offer and I was glad I did.

There's something about chronic pain that it affects every aspect of your life especially work since you spent the most of the time there.

It puts a pretty negative spin on everything. I found myself getting isolated from my friends because they wanted to do fun things and I just didn't feel like it and then I was like, "Well, you guys don't hurt all the time like I do." After work I would head home and just flop down. I quit doing any exercise. I was very active person up until then.

Radiofrequency ablation allows people to get back to their active life because chronic pain affects life in so many different ways other than the perception of pain. It interferes with the enjoyment of work, the enjoyment of family, the enjoyment of hobbies. Radiofrequency ablation allows a relief of the pain that which people can return to their active life and give their life back some meaning.

I would suggest that if you have chronic pain, lower back pain, that you would at least before surgery you would find a qualified pain management company. I was fortunate enough to find Dr. Papenfuse and Dr. Bearer at Matrix. They evaluated my pain and I was a candidate for RF, radiofrequency. It's a minimally invasive procedure. I'm sure patients would rather go to that direction than have a surgery that's not guaranteed to work. With this you'll know pretty quickly whether you're going to get a relief or not.

My pain relieved after radiofrequency within three days, complete relief. I don't know of any other ... even if you've had back surgery, you're not completely relieved that soon, you still have healing to do. This is so much easier than anything you can imagine. I mean it's just ... you go in, they do the procedure and the only thing you have to look forward to is being free of your pain for once.

When you wake up in the morning and you don't have pain and you've got a good night sleep because you didn't have pain that night, you can take on the world, you really can. There are things that you find yourself doing and you think, "Oh, if I do that I'm going to hurt," and then you do it and then you don't hurt and it's like, "All right, if I did that and I didn't hurt, let's do something else," so it just builds and builds and builds. The more you do the more you feel like you can't do and next thing you know you're back in your groove and you're active again. It just gives you a positive outlook.
