If you want to be sure the messages you have sent to someone in messenger has been read or not then:
Open messenger app.
Select the contact.
Now the messages which you have sent will be seen with blue background.
Tap on the message.
If the other contact has seen your message then you will see the day and the time when they read your message.
If not then you will not see the seen message
