Namaz or salat (الصلاة, as-salat) is a prayer in Islam. The obligatory fivefold prayer is one of the pillars of Islam, an expression of humility and gratitude to Allah; reading additional prayers is considered a good deed. The timely fulfillment of obligatory prayers has been repeatedly called the best deed for Muslims. Prayers include a different number of rak'ahs.

The daily prayer cycle consists of five obligatory prayers (fard) Go to the section "Obligatory prayers":
morning two-rakat prayer (fajr)
midday four-rakah prayer (zuhr)
evening four-rakah prayer (asr)
evening three-rakat prayer (maghrib)
night four-rakat prayer (isha)

The necessary conditions for salat are:

- Ritual cleanliness: performing ablution and cleansing from all impurities of the body, clothes and the place of prayer.
Covering the body (avrata).
- All parts of the body, usually not visible to strangers, must be covered with clothing.
- Facing towards the Kaaba. The Shafiites and a small part of the Twelver Shiites are of the opinion that it is obligatory to look at the Kaaba, if possible, the rest (Malikites, Hanafis, Hanbalis and most of the Twelver Shiites) believe that it is enough to look in the direction of the Kaaba. Be sure to also try to understand where the Kaaba is; if this is not possible, then the majority of Twelver Shiites believe that prayers should be performed four times in each direction of the world, and the rest of the Twelvers, Malikis, Hanafites and Hanbalites allow prayers to be performed in any direction.
- Salat time has come. The consensus of the ulema of all schools is that prayers should not be performed before the time indicated for them, since in this case they do not count.
- Intention to pray. Islamic scholars have not developed a consensus on whether the intention should contain an indication of the name of the prayer being performed, its timeliness (on time or later than necessary), obligation, and so on.
