The method of the Turks, Central Asian communities and many nomadic cultures.

Felt is a very old textile product formed by binding wool together under the influence of water, soap, heat, and pressure. Turks, Central Asian communities, and many nomadic cultures have used this method for centuries.
The Human Method of Felting by Foot
• First, the wool is cleaned and combed.
• Then, it is laid on the ground and sprinkled with soap and water.
• A cloth or rug-like covering is placed on top.

• People compress the wool by repeatedly stepping, kicking, and rolling it with their feet.
• This pressure tangles the wool fibers and hardens them.
• In the final stage, the felt is rolled again and dried to make it smooth.
Why is it Made by Foot?
• Large felts (e.g., tent covers and floor mats) would be very difficult to compress by hand.
• A group of people, stepping with their feet together, provides more even and powerful pressure.
• This method was also the most practical before the advent of machines. Modern Felting
Today, felting machines (pressure drums, vibrating systems) exist, but there are still communities that make felt using the traditional method, using their feet. This is also a cultural heritage.
