In this Honor Pad X8 review, we put the 10.1-inch entry-level tablet to the test against its competitors, the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 and the Xiaomi Redmi Pad. Priced at 199 Euros, the Honor tablet faces tough competition in its price range. We examine its design and build quality, display and speakers, hardware and performance, software, and battery life to determine if it can hold its own.

The design of the Honor Pad X8 impresses with its metal back, although the frame is made of plastic. It is compact and well-built, measuring 7.55mm thick and weighing 460g. The tablet lacks a headphone jack but offers a USB C 2.0 port and a MicroSD card slot. The cameras are average, with a 2-megapixel front webcam and a 5-megapixel main camera on the back.

With a 10.1-inch IPS display and a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, the Honor Pad X8 delivers satisfactory visuals. While the display is fully laminated with wide viewing angles and accurate colors, the pixel density becomes noticeable when viewed up close. The tablet supports HD quality streaming on platforms like Netflix, thanks to its Widevine level of L1. The speakers provide solid audio quality, making it suitable for budget entertainment use.

Powered by a MediaTek MT8786 processor, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage, the Honor Pad X8 offers good performance in everyday tasks and casual gaming. It outperforms the Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 in benchmarks but falls slightly behind the Xiaomi Redmi Pad. The tablet runs on Android 12 with Honor's Magic UI 6.1, providing a decent software experience. It comes preinstalled with Google Play Store, which was previously missing in Huawei and Honor devices due to trade restrictions.

In terms of battery life, the Honor Pad X8 offers a runtime of 6.25 hours, which is average considering the display brightness. Overall, the Honor Pad X8 is a solid tablet with decent features across the board. While it may not excel in any particular area, it offers good value for its price, especially with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. However, if you're looking for a more exciting option, the Xiaomi Redmi Pad with its metal casing, 90Hz display, and better performance might be worth considering.
