How much Super do I need when I retire?
Wealth Managers are frequently asked, 'How much Super do I need to retire?' and the truth is that there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. While we can easily give you a ballpark figure for a 'comfortable' retirement, it is important to understand the amount of income that you would like in retirement and work backwards from there. By estimating your living expenses in retirement, we can work out the level of income that you will need, and the amount of capital needed to provide the required income.
The Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia (ASFA) suggests that for a comfortable retirement, a single person would need $44,183 per annum and a couple $62,425 per annum. These figures assume that the retiree(s) own their own home outright and are relatively healthy.
So what is considered a modest or comfortable retirement lifestyle for retirees?
What other considerations must we think about, when working out how much Super you will need for retirement?
