What is Eternal Return?
It's a free Battle Royale MOBA on Steam.

Graphics Drivers like Intel and AMD should work fine in Ubuntu, but I am unsure if Nvidia Drivers would work well.

Installing wine

Steps to install Wine

Open Terminal, press ctrl alt t at the same time (ctrl+alt+t)

type this in terminal

sudo dpkg --add-architecture i386

sudo mkdir -pm755 /etc/apt/keyrings

sudo wget -O /etc/apt/keyrings/winehq-archive.key https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/winehq.key

sudo wget -NP /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ https://dl.winehq.org/wine-builds/ubuntu/dists/noble/winehq-noble.sources

sudo apt update

sudo apt install --install-recommends wine-stable

The code above is different from the wiki because wine wiki adds hq after wine which doesn't work, this is for stable release)
(During installation if it asks for operation type Y and enter)

Installing Gdebi

Open Terminal, press ctrl alt t at the same time (ctrl+alt+t)

type this in terminal

sudo apt install gdebi

Installing Steam

Go to official steam page, press install steam it will download the steam deb file

Open the download icon on the top right corner (this in Firefox)

Open the deb file

Install steam

If it asks about something about return, just press enter
(I don't remember clearly what the message was but it had to do with return)

Installing Eternal Return on Steam Client

Installing Eternal Return

1. Go to the top left corner in the Steam client and open steam

2. Go to settings

3. In Steam settings go to Compatibility section

4. Enable Enable Steam Play for all other titles

5. Install Eternal Return

Configuring Eternal Return on Steam Client

1. In the library right click on Eternal Return (After Eternal Return is fully installed)

2. Go to Properties

3. In Properties, go to General in Launch Options type in
gamemoderun %command%

(gamemode should be automatically installed if not, read the Additional Notes section, further down the description)

4. Close Properties, exit steam and relaunch steam then launch Eternal Return

Adjust settings in-game in Eternal Return

1. VERY IMPORTANT: Changing Resolution affects your fps greatly, having a lower resolutions gives higher fps, adjust accordingly

2. Change the Display mode to Full Screen

3. Change Graphics to Low, or any graphics that is suitable for your PC

4. Preference: Changing FPS Cap to whatever you like, I recommend to set it to either No limit or 60 fps

5. Disable Vsync, this increases your fps substantially, but this might cause a bit of screen stuttering, I think it depends on resolution

6. Disable Play Lobby Animation, this feature uses a lot of fps while in the menu, but I am unsure if it affects you in-game.

7. Preference:Disable Camera Shake Effect, I think this affects performance

8. Exit Eternal Return and Exit Steam, and restart your PC, then shutdown afterwards to apply changes

1. Closing Browsers and other applications

2. VERY IMPORTANT: Exiting Eternal Return and restart steam.

3.Shutting down your PC and restarting it

Additional Notes

1. Installing Synaptic package manager (Reference to gamemode in Configuring Eternal Return on Steam Client section)

2. Installing GloriousEggroll's ProtonGE

3. Installing Gamescope (Can't install as of June 2024 on Ubuntu 24.04)

4. Problems with Lutris and Eternal Return might have issues.

5. ReShade might work on Eternal Return (Please let me know if it works)

6. Mouse acceleration in comment
