Copenhagen, Denmark-Copenhagen Zoo (2017)

This was the controversial Copenhagen Zoo. We visited here on our third day in Denmark, and is my tenth foreign zoo.

This is the largest zoo in Scandinavia. I saw cars with Swedish license plates in the parking lot; the bridge to Sweden cost $60 to cross in each direction.

Highlights included the elephants, which were in one of the best exhibits I've seen. It's both indoors and outdoors, and provides plenty of space. Other animals include tigers, lions, amur leopards, and, on occasion, giant pandas. As this is Scandinavia, a whole section of the zoo is devoted to arctic animals as well. The only disappointment is the lack of great apes.

The whole southern section of the zoo is dedicated to Africa. There is a main African plains exhibit, featuring hippos, rhinos, zebras, and giraffes. Also featured are the endangered Okapi.

The zoo is also famous for its controversy. A two-year-old giraffe, Marius, was killed, publicly dissected, and his remains fed to the lions. The reason for this was because of his poor genetic outlook.
