Is This 20 Years Old Xmas Life Hack Still Relevant in 2018?

I this video, I show you a Life Hack that is at least 20 Years old. I remember my dad's friends doing it when I was just a kid.
It's a simple and cheap way to make your NON-Blinking Christmas lights blink.
All you need to do is to connect a starter.
It's an awesome trick, but is it still useful after 20 Years?
It will only work with old type Christmas lights......light that have small bulbs, NOT LED's.
These days most of Xmas light are LED's and with a push of a button you can choose a blinking pattern, so making your light blink is not a problem anymore.
