Class 10 Science Chapter 1 | Double Displacement Reaction | Short Notes 8 | CBSE

📚 Class 10 Science – Chapter 1: Chemical Reactions and Equations

Learn Double Displacement Reactions with easy explanations, NCERT examples, and exam-focused revision notes.

In this Short Notes video:
✅ What is a Double Displacement Reaction?
✅ General Form: AB + CD → AD + CB
✅ Exchange of Ions
✅ Formation of Precipitate
✅ Important NCERT Example
✅ Exam Tips & Quick Revision

Example Covered:
Na₂SO₄ + BaCl₂ → BaSO₄ + 2NaCl
Sodium Sulphate + Barium Chloride → Barium Sulphate + Sodium Chloride

Observation
🔹 White insoluble precipitate of Barium Sulphate (BaSO₄) is formed.

Why does it happen?
Barium ions combine with sulphate ions to form an insoluble compound, resulting in a precipitation reaction.

🎯 Key Point:
In a double displacement reaction, two compounds exchange their ions to form two new compounds.

📌 Exam Tip:
If two compounds exchange ions and form new products, it is a Double Displacement Reaction.

📚 Remember:
Precipitation Reactions are a type of Double Displacement Reaction.
