Wire Wrapping Tutorial: A Beginner's Wire Weave Heart Pendant
This is a great project for beginning wire wrappers wanting to learn to make a simple, but elegant wire pendant. The heart is small, less than an inch square when finished.
We originally designed and made this for the birthday of our 8-year old granddaughter, Brooklyn, but it can be worn by young ladies of any age.
You will learn two basic wire weaves and we will help you get comfortable working with the wire using your hands and some elementary tools.
Materials needed to make this jewelry project:
• 3 lengths of 20 gauge wire, 6-1/2 inches (16.5 cm) long
• 1 length of 28 gauge wire, 4-1/2 feet (135 cm) long (26 gauge would also work)
• 3-4 round crystal beads, 3-4 mm each
• 3 jump rings, 1/8", 3/16", and 7/32"-1/4", 19 or 18 gauge
• 1 necklace chain, cut to the desired length
• clasp
Tools needed:
• Wire cutters, preferably flush, but regular cutters will work
• Chain nose pliers
• Ruler
• Other pliers as needed to work the wire and for opening the jump rings
• Bobbin to hold lighter gauge wire (optional)
This project uses simple materials that most people will have available. But we have prepared a kit which includes all wire, crystals, chain, and findings a jewelry maker would need to complete this pendant and chain. The kit also includes printed instructions and a bobbin to keep your wrapping wire under control. The kit can be ordered from its product page at https://www.homestrungjewelry.com/product/a-birthday-heart-for-brooklyn/

Also, we appreciate any comments, suggestions, or questions you might have. (But please, no mentioning Steve's horrible case of "hospital" hands. We are in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, and he hasn't washed his hands this much since he left his job at the hospital.)
