Chinese Wife Cake - 老婆饼

Today we will be making a yummy sweet pastry. It is called Lao Po Bing - 老婆饼. Literally translated it means wife cake. Or they’re also called Sweetheart Cake. My father showed me this recipe a few years ago, he used to make them for us when we were little, they were always super yummy! When I bake these Wife Cake at home it makes the whole house smell like a sweet bakery!

This pastry is made out of 2 types of dough which makes it nice and flaky. Filled with a yummy sweet sticky rice filling. We will be making the Hong Kong style wife cake which has a sweet winter melon inside the filling. The sweet winter melon adds a nice texture to the pastry.
