For his very first Soton Brain Hub contribution, Calvin takes us through some of the complex ways that pain can be referred during child birth using Charlotte's stunning illustrations. This overview includes the advantages and disadvantages of the main anatomical routes where analgesia can be delivered and the reasons why one might be selected over another. It does assume some prior knowledge and theoretical understanding about how referred pain works, but it is the perfect bite sized companion for tackling this tricky topic, or as a quick recap if you are cramming for an exam!
