Comparison Review: Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC vs Genesis GV80 / Genesis takes on the Yardstick
The Genesis GV80 is the new kid on the SUV block. It's aiming high and looking to take on the likes of BMW, Audi and the Mercedes-Benz GLE450 4MATIC. So how does the GV80 compare against the GLE 450 yardstick?
The Genesis GV80 is available with two engines. Entry level models are equipped with a 2.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder while upper trims have a 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6. The 2.5L engine produces 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque (224 kW & 422 Nm) while the twin-turbocharged V6 produces 375 hp & 390 lb-ft of torque (280 kW & 529 Nm). This demo vehicle had the V6 engine.
This 2nd generation GLE is available with a few engine options. The base GLE 350 comes with a 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder, the higher AMG models are equipped with a mild-hybrid inline-6 & a twin-turbo mild-hybrid V8 in the GLE 53 AMG & GLE 63 AMG respectively. This GLE 450 is equipped with a slightly less powerful version of the 3.0L inline-6 mild-hybrid but it still packs a pretty good punch. The engine produces 362 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque on its own. The 48-volt mild-hybrid system assists it by momentarily providing an additional 21 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque when accelerating.
The 2021 Genesis GV80 starts at $64,500 CAD ($48,900 USD). This top spec Prestige trim will cost you $85,000 CAD ($65,550 USD). For the 2022 Genesis GV80 model year, all trim levels except for the 3.5 Advanced have gone up in pricing by $500 CAD. The 3.5 Advanced actually went down from $80,000 CAD to $77,000 CAD.
The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 4MATIC 2022 starts at $80,600 CAD ($63,500 USD). The 2022 GLE 450 can still be equipped with a lot of packages and stand alone options that will easily raise the price to around the $110,000 CAD mark.
