NHC: Hurricane Sam restrengthens to a Category 4 storm

Hurricane Sam has restrengthened to a Category 4 storm after weakening to a Category 3 Monday, the NHC says.

While fluctuations in intensity are expected, the storm is expected to remain a major hurricane through late this week.

According to the National Hurricane Center's 5 a.m. advisory, Hurricane Sam is packing sustained winds of 130 mph and is moving northwest at 9 mph.

The Category 4 storm is currently about 610 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands.
