Cantabile in B-flat major B.84 - Frederic Chopin (with score)

The autograph of the Cantabile in B flat major bears the date ‘Paris, 1834’. This fourteen-bar album leaf could have found a place among the twenty-four ephemeral lyrics that make up the cycle of Preludes, Op. 28, yet the Cantabile in B flat major that was ultimately placed there (as No. 21) is a much weightier work. This Cantabile is graceful, tuneful and airy, but little more besides. The work was never published during his lifetime. As it doesn't have an opus number, it is usually referred to by its Brown catalogue number, B. 84. Like many of his lesser works, it was published posthumously (in 1931), contrary to his wish that all his unpublished manuscripts be burned.
