Boulton Paul Defiant - The Unlucky Turret Fighter

The Boulton Paul Defiant is often called one of the worst fighter aircraft of WW2...which is somewhat accurate. It didn't exactly do well as a traditional fighter/interceptor. However it eventually found some success as a night fighter and interceptor during the London Blitz.

It was designed to intercept bomber formations, fly underneath them, and then tear them to shreds with its mounted turret. Sadly it had no forward facing guns, so once Luftwaffe pilots figured out how to approach this curious aircraft it would be in trouble.

The Defiant would go on to test some of the worlds earliest airborne electronic warfare equipment, and two would be used to test Martin Baker's developing ejection seat.
