The Art and Practice of Performance Psychology
Filmed at the California Southern University School of Behavioral Sciences. Please visit http://www.calsouthern.edu/psychology
Presenter: Nick Lazaris, PsyD
Description:
Performance psychology is emerging as a practice area that focuses on applying psychological principles, theories and skills to enhance optimal performance among populations such as performing artists and athletes, as well as those in the business world. This presentation, geared toward practitioners as an introduction to the field, explores the development of domain-specific knowledge and the application of psychological skills training (PST), such as those used in sport psychology, to allow for the consultant/practitioner to effect specific change in the performance of clients in pressure situations.
In addition, attendees will learn skills to apply to their own performance as well as to the populations mentioned above. Finally, a discussion will be presented as to what is necessary to market and apply the previous skillset to specific populations.
Learning Objectives:
Those who attend this lecture will be able to:
Appreciate the history of sport/performance consulting;
Identify the domain-specific populations to which the practitioner can apply PST;
Understand the fundamentals of PST for performance enhancement; and
Apply the skills and actions necessary to market and apply performance-enhancement skillsets to specific populations.
