Elon Musk's dream of catapulting humans through pods inside a high-speed transportation system called Hyperloop is one step closer to becoming a reality. Hyperloop is a sealed tube or system of tubes with low air pressure through which a pod may travel substantially free of air resistance or friction. In 2013, Tesla and Space CEO Elon Musk revealed plans for an alpha version of the much-anticipated Hyperloop. The innovative transportation system would move passengers from Los Angeles to San Francisco in less than 30 minutes. According to the plans, the Hyperloop would transport passengers in aluminum pods traveling up to 800mph, mostly following the route of California's I-5. The estimated cost would be a skin-stretching 6 billion dollars for the passenger-only model, or 7.5 billion dollars for a larger model capable of transporting cars. The Hyperloop could convey people or objects at an airline or hypersonic speeds while being very energy efficient. This would drastically reduce travel times versus trains as well as planes over distances of under approximately 1,500 kilometers or 930 miles.
