Why I'm No Longer Recommending YouTubers Who Caption | Rikki Poynter

YouTubers such as Colleen Ballinger (Miranda Sings), James Charles, Thomas Halbert, and more have made public announcements on YouTube and Twitter about how they were going to start captioning their videos. Due to these exciting events, I would create shoutout videos or tweets appreciating them and recommending their content to my own audience on accessibility alone, just as I did for other creators like Tyler Oakley and Good Mythical Morning who (continue to) caption their content.

Unfortunately, all the more recent creators who made announcements stopped captioning their videos as fast as they started, and that brings feelings of disappointment from deaf and hard of hearing viewers including myself. I hate that once I would help spread the word, they would stop doing so.

Now, I want to take a different approach by sharing videos that are captioned one by one, as those are presumed to be permanent, rather than dedicate a video to every new creator who decides to caption. #NoMoreCRAPtions
