Restoration of a Bench Grinder from the 90's

Restoration of a single Phase Bench Grinder from 1995. This is a simple yet satisfying restoration and the video includes Shearing, Grinding, Polishing, sanding and spray painting.

THE GRINDER
26 Years old might not sound it but having found it, tossed among a load of old machinary in a workshop, i thought what better to do than restore and personalise it. The Bench grinder has certainly seen some action and yet still works as good as the day it was made.

THE RESTORATION PROCESS
I start the restoration by dismantling some of its main components, with the help at times of a little WD40. Once the grinder is dismantled, I can then see if there are any problems, parts to replace etc.

The next thing i do is clean away all of the oxidized surfaces and previous paint. If you plan on repainting, it makes sense to leave this on, smoothen/ scuff it up and paint over the top as only specialist paints stick without using etch primers etc.

Once i have got it to the kind of finish i am aiming for, i wash and degrease all parts to be painted, grind the base to personalise it somewhat, make the guards using a polycarbonate , shatterproof plastic and finish assembling it.
