Lily mine I Families of Lily Mine disaster victims unhappy with mine reopening

The families of the three miners unaccounted for after the 2016 Lily Mine disaster in Barberton, Mpumalanga, have expressed unhappiness at the government's alleged intention to grant Vintage Goldfields mining rights.

It appears the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy informed the families that it's considering granting the previous owners of the mine, Vintage Goldfields, the rights to resume operations at the mine.

An inquest into the mine disaster found that some individuals and Vintage Goldfields were to blame for the tragedy.
