Restoring an 1837 Charles Dickens First Edition

In 1837 Dickens's first great novel, 'The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club', was published in book form. Very few copies have survived in the original, fragile cloth, and my self-appointed task in this video is to restore one such copy. While I'm engaged in that craftsman's work, I provide a commentary on the history of 'Pickwick', the mechanics of book production in the early 19th century, the history of book cloth and the restoration process itself.
