Laura Nyro TV appearance Kraft Music Hall -January 15, 1969
Back on April 8, 1997 one of America's finest singer songwriters passed away from ovarian cancer at age 49. Laura Nyro, who's music combined, pop soul, jazz, and even show tunes, influenced Joni Mitchell, Rickie Lee Jones, and countless others but she never had a hit record of her own. This is her only TV appearance (from January 15, 1969). Laura is introduced by singer songwriter Bobby Darin (who also died very young at age 37). The first song Laura performs is "He's A Runner" from her 1967 debut album More Than A New Discovery and is sang live with a backing track. The second song, "Save The Country" which Columbia Records had released as a single 7 months earlier, is performed completely live with Laura accompanying herself on the piano. An incredibly talented musician & singer and an amazing performance on national television.
